As life requires me to do different things, I finds myself listening to a wide range of music, almost habitually.
For example...
While I am cleaning, I like to listen to light hearted pop, from artists like Jason Mraz.
When I am doing math/physics problems, or when I am driving, I like to listen to alternative rock, like the Neighbourhood, or Arctic Monkeys.
When doing research, I love listening to swing era singers, like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, etc., or a thoughtful podcast.
When reading, I like songs composed by Joe Hisaishi, Claude Debussy, or artists like them. (Classical, instrumental)
When drawing, I like to listen to music that best represents what I am drawing. (Does that sound weird?)
And when I commute places, I prefer not to listen to anything at all, but rather the world around me.

When you go through your day, do you feel like you listen to just one or two genres (like strictly metal or only classical)? Or does it really just depend on the activity?

I know I have maybe 9-10 active watchers, but I thought it would be fun to share routines, and musical preferences, because it can become such an integral part of one's day.

So as the title asks: What do you listen to? And when?

Sometimes I feel so disconnected from humanity, that instead of music, I prefer spoken word audio. It feels surreal because it isn't something people could do beyond the last 20 years or so. Maybe its a sign that we're all going to go completely isolationist in nature and social interaction. But as far as music goes, it can have a profound effect on my emotional state. I heard once that listening to death metal and speedy rock music can increase your chances of getting into a reckless car accident by a huge margin. Looking that up real quick it turns out that its due to the heart rate and beats per minute that each genre has of its own. www.newscientist.com/article/d…
So if you listen to fast music you're most likely to get into an accident because you're more reckless and aggressive. Well I happen to like fast music because it is aggressive but it can also kill me so maybe thats not so great. So I tend to not like music in general because its just another substance affecting my mood and all that. And it isn't really addicting so I don't really have any problem avoiding it.
